Hello dears,
even though most of you might know more than I will say here about the iconic bag, today’s post is dedicated to her, a Princess Bag, the Kelly.
The Kelly is a trapezoid-shaped bag, comfortable, with a hard bottom and a closing system with straps.
The forefather of Hermès famous saddle bag was designed in the 1940s by Emile and Ettore Bugatti and was conceived as a traveling bag, covered in morocco leather, featuring a lock to close it with a key (it still does today) and four feet to protect its bottom part when placed on the ground.
The Kelly got its name par excellence after its appearence in 1956 in Life magazine in the hands of Grace Kelly. The Princess of Monaco had in fact ordered half a dozen of them: in black leather, honey-colored, brown, Hermès red, and dark green. However, the bag started to be called officially by this name only in the 1990s. (source: Vogue.it)
Over the years the Kelly model has been reinvented and now features countless variants of materials, accessories, and designs thought out for several occasions. What remains unchanged is its original “sac haut à courroie” shape, commonly aknowledged as emblem of timeless luxury.
