Come posso abbinarlo?” Ebbene, pensate fuori dagli schemi.

Glen Plaid or Prince of Wales : the typically British check is a must-have this Fall – ENGLISH

How to wear Glen Plaid o Prince of Wales, hot season trend. Good morning lovelies! Let’s start a new week chatting about a super popular fashion trend. All fashion collections out there feature at least a couple of items in Glen Plaid or Prince of Wales. That’s why we can say beyond any doubt that the distinctive box-like graphic filled with checks and pied-de-poule patterns is this season must-have.

Fashion Vocabulary – Glen Plaid or Prince of Wales?

Glen plaid fabric was nicknamed Prince of Wales after Henry VIII, who made it popular with his unmistakable dandy style. The pattern is traditionally made up of two dark and two light stripes alternating with four dark and four light stripes to create a crossing pattern of irregular checks and pied-de-poule. A color different from white and black is often used to outline the bigger squares.

For example a touch of yellow has been spotted on Fendi’s catwalk, as well as on Balenciaga’s and Joseph’s. While all the vitaminic power of red and orange showed up in Prada Fall 2017 collection. Personally I love a burgundy thread perking up the traditional pattern.

How to wear Glen Plaid or Prince of Wales

Now let’s see how to wear this popular fabric, getting inspiration from influencers all over the world. For a super glam outfit go for a classic straight-cut blazer maschile, and highlight your waistline with a belt.  For a bon-ton winter look, suitable for the office as well, style Glen Plaid palazzo pants with a buttercream turtleneck.

If you are into British checks, you can dare a total look. In this case forget the bon-ton mood, in favour of the wow effect. For example I have a major crush on the oversize sporty suit with yellow stripes by Fendi. If you are not completely ready to rock this fashion trend, you can start by incorporating Prince of Wales accessories in your outfits. A checkered maxi scarf can revamp your good old coat, just to name one.

Now I’m going to answer a question many of you lovelies came up with. That is “I got myself a Prince of Wales coat and would like to wear it on a daily basis. How should  I style it?” Well, think outside the box! In order to be true fashionistas incorporate British checks into urban outfits. Rock your coat or trench over jeans and t-shirt to start with. Or over a loose cut ensemble: palazzo pants, oversize sweater and sneakers. And choose super modern accessories, like my REBB bag Stars edition.

I am in love with the check and the plaid at that moment. I mean it is really in right now… but I have been eyeballing with it for quite some time now. A few days ago I saw a checked Coach coat and it is still on my mind. I guess I would have to buy it.

Haha, well, at least Henry VIII did something good during his otherwise quite violent reign. You know I love history and fashion history in particular, so thank you for not just writing about a current trend, but also about where it originates from. As for the pattern itself, you’re rocking it and I’m sure I should give a try to see how it looks on me. 🙂
