though it’s not unusual to find “Chanel” and “work of art” in the same sentence, this time the spotlight is not going to be on the marvels we saw marching Paris catwalks on October 1st (see this post).
In fact, on the occasion of SS2014 presentation, Karl Lagerfeld transformed the Grand Palais into an art gallery. The lucky spectators at Chanel show attended at the same time a vernissage of 75 installations sketched by Karl and brought to life by his team, each of them including some element of Chanel: a camellia, a pearl, a bottle of No. 5.
The coming together of concept and design showed up in every aspect of this pret-a-porter collection, with pieces looking like they had been cut-off from charcoaled canvas, wigs recalling paintbrushes, and a bold eye-make-up in the shape of wipes of paint.
